About Us
The State pays great interest to restructuring the Drinking Water and wastewater sector to ensure the achievement of the set strategic objectives to the benefit of Egyptian citizens. Therefore, the state decided to establish the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater and the Drinking Water and Wastewater and Consumer Protection Agency by virtue of Presidential decrees in 2004.
The Holding Company was established in accordance with the Presidential Decree No. 135/2004, with the juridical nature as per the provisions of Law No. 203/1991 and the Executive Regulations thereto.
By virtue of Paragraph 3 of the said Presidential decree, the Public Economic Authorities and the Public Sector Companies for Drinking Water and Saniation in the following governorates: Cairo, Alexandria, Beheira, Damietta, Sharkeya, Gharbeya, Kafr El-Sheikh, Dakahleya, Fayoum, Beni Sweif, El-Menya and Aswan, are transformed into affiliates to the Holding Company, subject to the provisions of the Business Sector Law, issued by Law No. 203/1991.
A number of water companies in some governorates joined the Holding Company, Qena, Menoufeya and Luxor companies were affiliated.

Scope of work: 21 governorates in addition to the city of Shubra El-Kheima.
Number of affiliate companies: 23 companies.
Number of staff of the affiliate companies: 98,499 employees.
Number of subscribers to Drinking Water services: 9.5 million subscribers.
Production of Drinking Water: 25 mn m/day.
Number of water treatment plants: 153 filtering plants, 817 small plants and 3812 well plants.
Length of distribution networks: 107,000 km.
Number of wastewater treatment plants: 239 plants.
Length of wastewater collection networks: 29,000 km.
Number of subscribers to wastewater services: 4 mn subscribers.
Number of inhabitants served: 75 mn citizens.
Treated wastewater: 8.123 mn m/day.
Each m saved by citizens is money given to citizen services, each m wasted, is the nations money wasted.
